I never heard people shunted battery with caps in order to change sound. In case of battery power unit it does not make sense as there is no HF noise some in the picture. Yes, battery has own noise but it usually no where hear what the audio circuitr...

Adrian, how disappointing.I have heard effects like this from digital processing, where "space" is not continuous but only happens when "there is an event in it", like the Hindu "breathing" of the Universe. Stations certainly pro...

Oh, Romy, I meant the air caps in the corrector loop of course!!!Adjusting PS caps I leave to AA morons and alike.Believe me or not I did go very serious about the proper choke input operation. What I meant is that I have to get hold of a scope to che...

hello guys, greetings from Italy !! ..I would have a question being that they are still being optimized.
I have to buy the 6 caps that are on the PCB valves .. those at 400-450v.
On my ear..which I bought on ebay..they were ...

What’s with audiophiles and their fancy, expensive
capacitors, anyway? You might think I have an answer to that question, since I
recently (a couple of months ago) swapped fancy new V-Caps into the output
positions in my K&K phono stage.
If you do, do seek out old Air dielectric AM tuning Capacitors. You only need 110pF & 330pF, both can be found suitably. Once you tuned the RIAA to perfection simply superglue the shaft in.... I used to use that trick in pr...

Dominik, babies doesn't mix well with tube amps!Whar are the big caps? The toroids were also woundby Pieter or do you have some GOOD local winder?Cheers,N-set...

Romy,
There are transmitter air caps available which can handle several killovolts. They aren't cheap, though, and may also be impractical due to their size.

Check out the Johnson capacitors, ...

Hi Romy,Probably my evaluation methods are still quite moronic, but I think I'm learning to listen to what matters in the music. I had some experiences with a friend using several caps in a preamp he built, and also in the integrated I'm using. I und...

Which caps exactly did you decide to try? I don't recognize the big black jobbies. Are they oilers? Are they 200V?Sticking with the Hammond chokes?Best regards,Paul S...

just a minor tech remark (feel free to ignore): the big-ass elco is theoretically still well in the picture. 10uF will have 320Ohm@500Hz, which is a fraction of 20Ohm R+3mF elco.>You see, the motor reaction to some things that the MF does now are ...

I've used both tube and solid-state rectification over the years and much is well documented for power supplies, i.e., old ARRL manuals, Tube manuals, etc.. In most cases small value filter caps were shown, as you really couldn't get much in la...

Sine recently I got accidentally (though as I feel that it is sp far justifiably) converted into an idiot-builder I kid of hunt for certain things… So, he it comes... I recently grabbed a run of large “never available” Electrocube 410 Polystyre...

As always I tend to play around, experimenting with components in my equipment a little bit. I strongly believe not enough emphasis is placed on topology and the physical layout of the circuit, as sometimes people forget that a circuit is a phy...
Actually, I believe they can be tailor made to your exact specifications, which at that price they should be.
This is always an interesting question to me – where is the thres...
Did you try just for test to increase the caps value that short the plate to ground? Will it amount and the character of the noise change?
Just like one would expect: 0.1uF shorting cap gives approx 4x more ham than...

Ive heard you mention copper air caps before. Do you have reason to think they would actually make any difference vs alu....

FYI: Talked to a vintage specialist/repairman about old dried caps. Compressed sound and lack of space are the two things he mentioned straight away....

Dan
it is a slippery subject and I do not think that anything could be “right” or “wrong” in there. I generally do not “voice” drivers with section of capacitors. However, but it is not mean that I do not see difference between the capacitors ...

I tried the V-caps in my system and it changed the sound. This is not a big surprise. Any time you change caps, even to the same cap, it is not broken in and you have been soldering and tinkering with your system, and it needs time to set...

"Do not use plastic caps ... but go for a tandem of electrolytics Nichicons with active biasing."
Hi Romy,
Please excuse my ignorance. Can you please clarify what you mean by "active biasing" -- in relation to the caps?
I'm thinking to get...
When you are taking about “caps at higher frequencies”, then what do you
mean? The line level, the speaker level, the line level between? Do not forget
that a RL filter is always preferable over C filter.
It was re...
Thanks a lot, I've forwarded to him your answers, let's see what he says. I have tried Mundorfs in some critical places in the integrated tube amp I'm using now and they are pretty good, expensive, but not at the level of tho...

In fact am not only planning to try an electrolytic capacitor as the LF Milq’s coupling (if I found one with low linkage capacitance) but I would also planning to try the “my proprietary” cooked capacitors. I have to admit that it sounds very s...

The question in my mind Romy is: why? I will be interested to hear your comment on what your goal was to learn about your system in introducing these and what the results are. After the extent to which you have described the sound of your...

I was slowing mingling the conversion of the power supplied of my second Super Milq from 3 channels into 6 channels and I ask myself: is anything in that amp is made in the way that would allow me to close it up and never review it. Sure if I move in...
